Some Summer Updates

I’ve been lucky to have some great readers pick up The Summer Layoff and leave substantive reviews.

First, Erick Eckel wrote this piece: “The Summer Layoff Reminds Readers Of The Importance Of Finding Fulfillment Outside Work” which I recommend mainly because it links to his own short story called “Live Bait: Life on the Pinellas Trail,” which I truly enjoyed.

Then, Michael Maiello reviewed the book on his Substack, Middlebrow Musings. He also reviewed The Belan Deck in 2023.

The book was also featured on BookTuber Marc Nash’s latest video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skINg4BKRT8&t=1539s He gives a really smart review of the book and I enjoyed his whole video.

The Summer Layoff was also included in this recent round-up by big-time YouTubers A Life on Books podcast.

The video is about Andy’s return from brain surgery. I’ve been a big fan of Andy’s for a long time (mainly through his Instagram) and so it was really cool to see that he’d read my book as part of his post-surgery recovery.
